Bali Dental Surgery & Cosmetic Treatment — Patient Experience & Advisory

Please, please do your research.

I am now formally affiliated with Dr Asnul, Sp.BM, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at GiO Dental Denpasar, and I am happy to share my personal treatment experience to assist others undertaking dental or cosmetic procedures in Bali.

I received five implants, a bridge, extractions, temporary crowns, and composite veneers, following two months of videoconsults and detailed treatment planning. I have recently returned home after completing my permanent restorations and porcelain veneers.

During treatment I stayed in Legian, a short walk from Garlic Lane, and found Grab transport extremely convenient for appointments.

Important Advisory for Veneers, Whitening & Gum Health

If you have periodontal disease or gum recession, please exercise caution with veneers or whitening.

Less qualified practitioners may attempt to “lengthen” veneers to mask recession — a practice that can worsen gum health and compromise long‑term outcomes.

Be wary of clinics advertising photoshopped one‑day transformations.

It is not medically possible for inflamed, red gums to become healthy and pink within hours.

Why I Chose GiO Dental

GiO Dental has a broad team of subspecialists, including:

  • Periodontists
  • Endodontists
  • Prosthodontists
  • Orthodontists
  • General dentists
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (Sp.BM)

For dental implants, I strongly recommend choosing practitioners with recognised specialist qualifications:

  • Sp.BM — Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (e.g., Dr Asnul)
  • Sp.Pros — Prosthodontist
  • Sp.Perio — Periodontist

Under Kepkonsil No. 33/2019, these are the only specialties formally authorised to exercise clinical authority over implant procedures in Indonesia.

Implantology is still developing as a standalone specialty in Indonesia, making specialist selection even more important.

My Experience With Dr Asnul

Despite being a surgeon, Dr Asnul’s fees were comparable to general dentists offering similar procedures, yet his training and clinical precision were exceptional.

He regularly travels to Europe for advanced training and performs complex dental and maxillofacial cases at BIMC Hospital.

I was offered the option of undergoing my implants under general anaesthetic at BIMC, but I was comfortable having them completed in‑clinic.
