One of the things I value most about this group is being able to share genuine patient experiences—the good, the challenging, and everything in between.
Today I wanted to share Trent’s story.

The Challenge:
Like many Australians, Trent had been struggling with significant dental problems for a long time.
Missing teeth, failing teeth, ongoing deterioration, and the impact on confidence had all started to take their toll.
Eating was becoming increasingly difficult, smiling in photographs was something he often avoided, and he knew that eventually he would need comprehensive treatment rather than another temporary fix.
After researching his options both in Australia and overseas, Trent began looking seriously at Bali.
Why Bali?
For Trent, the decision wasn’t simply about cost.
It was about finding a treatment plan that addressed all of his dental problems in a structured and comprehensive way.
After extensive discussions and assessment, a full treatment plan was developed that included:
✅ Removal of unsalvageable teeth
✅ Implant placement
✅ Temporary fixed teeth
✅ Staged rehabilitation
✅ Final permanent restorations following healing and implant integration
An Unexpected Setback
As many people know, medical and dental treatment doesn’t always go exactly to plan.
When Trent arrived in Bali ready for surgery, pre-operative assessment identified something completely unexpected.
He had developed a significant throat infection.
Although he had travelled specifically for dental treatment, the clinical team made the decision that proceeding immediately would not be safe.
Because of concerns regarding infection, airway management and the risks associated with general anaesthesia, surgery was postponed.
While understandably disappointed, this was exactly the sort of decision you want clinicians to make.
Patient safety came first.
The Importance of Travel Insurance
Prior to travelling, Trent had taken out MediShield insurance at an additional cost of approximately AUD $400.
That decision proved invaluable.
Instead of simply being sent away, Trent was admitted to InMedika Private Hospital for comprehensive medical management.
His insurance subsequently covered:
🏥 Hospital admission
👂 ENT specialist care
💉 Anaesthetic assessment
🩺 Internal medicine review
👩⚕️ Nursing care
💊 Medications and monitoring
📋 Ongoing clinical management
The delay lasted approximately one week while the infection was treated and resolved.
Only once the treating team was satisfied it was safe to proceed was surgery rescheduled.
Treatment Day
Following medical clearance, Trent underwent the first stage of his treatment plan.
The procedure involved extensive dental rehabilitation and implant placement under the supervision of the treating team.
The intra-operative photographs show just how significant the treatment was and the level of planning involved.
Recovery
Following discharge from hospital and completion of surgery, Trent recovered at the very quiet Alantara Sanur.
The peaceful environment provided an ideal setting for rest, healing and recovery away from the busier tourist areas.
The Results So Far
The photographs tell the story far better than words.
➡️ Before Treatment
➡️ During Surgery
➡️ After First Stage Treatment
The transformation already achieved is remarkable.
Most importantly, Trent is absolutely thrilled with the outcome so far.
His confidence has improved dramatically and he can finally see the finish line after years of dental problems.
What’s Next?
It is important to understand that this is not the end of treatment.
The current teeth are temporary restorations.
The next phase involves allowing the implants sufficient time to fully integrate and fuse with the surrounding bone.
This healing process typically takes approximately 3–4 months.
Once healing is complete, Trent will return for his final permanent restorations.
That final stage will provide the definitive long-term result.
Key Takeaways
✅ Comprehensive treatment planning matters
✅ Safety should always come before schedules
✅ Pre-operative medical assessment is critical
✅ Travel insurance can be invaluable
✅ Unexpected complications can occur anywhere
✅ Good clinical teams delay treatment when necessary
✅ Dental rehabilitation is often a journey rather than a single procedure
Congratulations Trent on reaching this important milestone.
We look forward to following the next stage of your journey and seeing the final result in a few months’ time.
